"This video is glitzy, fast-paced, full of buzz words, It's great stuff, and speaks the words that MOD use. It is taking us from being fairly pedestrian in the way we display ourselves up a level, comparable with anything else in the defence business. We showed it at Eurosatory it worked extremely well and gave the right impression. "
CEO
The Brief
General Dynamics United Kingdom is one of the UK's leading defence contractors and has a major presence at a number of key exhibitions in the UK and Europe. Having been awarded the ASCOD Scout Variant contract by the UK MoD the company was keen to present this state-of-the art armoured vehicle starting with Eurosatory 2010.
The vehicle itself was not yet available for a physical appearance so General Dynamics asked Impact Image to devise an attention-grabbing presence to present a virtual vehicle as an alternative.
Key requirements were that the vehicle's capabilities, build and on-board equipment could be showcased in an exciting and entertaining way.
Solution
Solution
We settled upon a 'Pepper's Ghost' concept which could incorporate near life size, cinema quality, CGI of ASCOD SV with a live presenter and his 'alter ego' who was composited into the CGI. This way his alter ego could explore the vehicle and present its capabilities while the live presenter acted as the 'anchor man'.
Result
The very first showing at Eurosatory in Paris 2010 was watched by key delegations, journalists and GDUK senior management including some from the parent company in the US. The presentation's ability to provide key information and visuals in a lively and engaging way was regarded a resounding success. The exhibition received similar appreciation at DVD Millbrook.
The normal lead time for this type of presentation is 3 months and we successfully completed the production in just 5 weeks.
